MEP Utah and BINEX Explode into ISO 9000 Implementation

Results
BINEX and their customers are very pleased with the ISO 9000 system implemented. Without help from MEP the cost to do the project by private consultants would not have been obtainable. As a result of this training and Quality Assurance system implementation, BINEX has been able to retain $600,000 in sales and gain $300,000 in new sales. Other benefits obtained are reduced lead-time, increased throughput, and reduced defect rate.

Opportunity
Companies that sell their end product to the aerospace and defense industries are required to have an excellent quality assurance system. Without a recognized Quality Assurance (QA) system in the industry, BINEX was told that they would not be able to keep present contracts and also would not be considered for future business.

Solution
MEP Utah met with BINEX to discuss their needs and expectations. It was determined that they needed to become ISO Compliant to continue working with their current customers. ISO 9000 was chosen as the system to comply with and training/implementation was provided by MEP. The MEP provided three things for them. First, our Field Engineer helped them generate their quality manual, including company information, their quality philosophy, etc. Secondly, we helped them write their procedures and processes in order to address quality issues. Finally, our Field Engineer gave them 15-20 boiler templates from which they built their own forms required for ISO 9000 Compliance (such as Corrective Action Requests and other forms).

This project was 50% funded with State of Utah Custom-Fit money-thus making it affordable for a small company of this size.
