Testimonial
"To remain a key supplier to many of our aerospace and commercial customers, it was a requirement to become ISO 9001:2000 approved and/or Malcolm Baldridge approved. We also saw significant advantages in becoming approved; we felt it would improve our throughput and decrease quality costs. The MEP's field engineer, Mike Talbot, came in and took us step by step through the quality process, using ISO requirements and our existing quality system. Within eight months we succeeded in implementing ISO 9001:2000 and now have been approved. We are very pleased with MEP's efforts and expertise in assisting us with the preparations, surveys, and our final approval audits. MEP is also helping us with our Malcolm Baldridge approval. We plan on using MEP again in the future."

Products Emerald Precision Casting (EPC) has been a major supplier of ferrous and non-ferrous investment castings since 1996 and continues to provide a high quality product to the aerospace and commercial industry throughout the world.
Opportunity
Many of Emeralds' customers were requesting ISO certification in order to keep Emerald Precision Casting on their approved supplier lists. Customers such as Cessna, Lockheed Martin, and Goodrich Aerospace, as well as others, constitute the bulk of Emerald's workload. Presently there is a 60/40 split in favor of aerospace vs. a commercial product, so Emerald was very motivated to implement and train all of their employees in a quality management system that could be registered to the 9001:2000 standard.
Solution
An MEP Utah Project Engineer met with EPC to discuss their needs and expectations in order to implement a quality assurance system that would meet their customers' requirements. One of the first steps was to compile information and create a quality manual. By working with a core management team of 7-8 key individuals, EPC was able to complete a quality manual, quality policy, and quality objectives. Then the MEP assisted them in compiling all the forms, procedures, logs, and records to fulfill all the requirements of the ISO Standard. Finally, the MEP trained EPC personnel on internal auditing and performed an internal audit across all areas of plant operation.
